The Trust undertakes a wide range of local food initiatives to support the development of a sustainable future for local communities. Our work includes:
Newtown Market Hall – The full refurbishment of this historic Victorian Market Hall, including raising 1.2 million capital funding, reopening as a market hall, creation of community meeting rooms, establishment of two local – food based social enterprises and supporting new start-up businesses. Community Development and Capacity Building – delivering local food initiatives which improve people’s knowledge, skills and self-confidence and bring greater resilience and self reliance to local communities.
Education for Sustainability – working with young people to deliver the Welsh and UK Governments’ ESDGC (Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship) agenda through innovative curriculum-based enterprise projects.
Providing consultancy services to public, not-for-profit and private sectors – on all aspects of local food systems, community engagement and capacity building and sustainability in education.
Supporting the Development and Promotion of Local and Regional Food Tourism – through supporting the creative use of local and regional foods in local tourism businesses and events.
